Slur Wars Are Over: Latest CS2 Update Brings Encryption To In-Game Chat
For the past few weeks, chat in some CS2 matches has been completely out of control, and not in a good way. Thousands of slurs and insults were being spammed during games, but the latest CS2 update should make the situation considerably better.

In this post: September 9, 2026 CS2 Update: Short Summary In this small CS2 update, the developers made several changes to Cache. They added extra spawn points, fixed one of the wallbang spots on B, and closed various gaps across the map.
Work also continues on scripts for custom maps. The most important change is that messages sent through the in game chat are now encrypted. As a result, external resources can no longer parse them.
After the community discovered that it was possible to access all messages sent during a match, a slur tracker appeared online. Some not-so-smart players even decided to make a name for themselves through this pointless stunt.
The leader of this so called ranking managed to post 10,000 slurs in a single match. Let’s remember, that even one of this slurs is enough to get your favorite streamer banned. Valve added chat encryption based on the same rules previously used in CS:GO.
You can still see all chat messages when watching a demo inside the game, but team chat messages will no longer be available after the match ends.
