FURIA go back-to-back at Thunderpick World Championship to secure first title of 2026

FURIA have defeated BETBOOM in a nail-biting 3-2 series, denying BETBOOM a massive comeback before closing it out on the deciding Cache to secure the Thunderpick World Championship title in Malta.

With the win, the Brazilian-majority side has broken a nearly year-long title duck dating back to the BLAST Rivals Season 2 last November, doing so at the same tournament where they were once victorious already just a month before that.

FURIA got off to a flying start in the series on Dust2. With a 21-8 scoreline, he powered his team to a 13-6 victory as FURIA won forcebuy wars to run away with the economy game early into both halves.

The Kazakh AWPer was back in his element early on Ancient and it looked as if FURIA would run away with that map, too, but it all went wrong when, at 7-1, two teamkills within seconds from one another gave BETBOOM a way back in.

The Russian side took the opportunity and ran away with it, leaving FURIA scrambling as they lost the next eight rounds in a row. The game ultimately went to overtime after a late back-and-forth, and BETBOOM completed the comeback in two sets of extra rounds.

FURIA looked to reply in kind on Mirage and did just that to start off on the CT side, securing a 10-2 CT side after repeatedly taking the fight to BETBOOM in Middle and pulling off crucial flanks when the rounds got tough.

The Malta event was the venue for his maiden MVP in October 2025, and continues to be a happy hunting ground for KSCERATO in his second visit.

KSCERATO then opened the final with a 1.83-rated Dust2 to extend that lead even further and pick up a seventh POTM. He was also solid on Mirage, with a 1.85-rated first half as FURIA secured a 10-2 lead that they eventually converted 13-11.

So while he did have competition from an impressive Kirill "Magnojez" Rodnov , KSCERATO was ahead before the final and remained the clear candidate for the medal at its close. The MVP award strengthens an already brilliant year for the Brazilian.

KSCERATO has picked up four EVPs so far in 2026, and has finished eight LAN events with a 1.20 rating or higher. But this one, a 1.34-rated Big Event MVP, is the best of the bunch.

The win over BetBoom nets FURIA's Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo a potential final trophy in the twilight of his career after he announced his plans to retire at the end of 2026 back in April.

There had been some concern that the team would fail to win an S-tier trophy this year after falling short a number of events including the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, however those fears have now been dashed.

This required FURIA to rally on Mirage with a close 13-11 win led by strong play by Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato to force the series onto Cache.

From there FURIA had their most dominant map of the day as they posted an 8-4 T-side before taking the map 13-6, with FalleN having his time in the sun with fourteen kills and a +6.87% round swing.

Next up for FURIA is PGL Masters Bucharest 2026, which is set to start on October 24th. https://x.com/FURIA/status/2111935035297124475?s=20 Also read: Breaking: FalleN announces retirement on stage at IEM Rio

But despite winning the second pistol round, too, closing the map proved difficult against a BETBOOM side that was making the double AWP in zorte and Magnojez 's hands work wonders.

Fictional bylines. Each take uses a line above and adds no facts.

FURIA can stand on this line: "FURIA got off to a flying start in the series on Dust2. With a 21-8 scoreline, he powered his team to a 13-6 victory as FURIA won forcebuy wars to run away with the economy game…" It is already on the card, so the case does not need a streak or a roster rumor.
