Updated smokes and new mechanics usually get the most attention, but there’s another, less obvious difference that could have an even bigger impact on gameplay: the advantage of peeking in a gunfight.
YouTuber Gilborg ran an experiment to find out just how different CS2 is from Counter-Strike Source and Counter-Strike Global Offensive in this regard. Customize your inventory in your favorite style, and CS.MONEY will help you get great deals!
Together with a teammate, Gilborg played 120 duels in each game. In every duel, one player held an angle while the other actively peeked around a corner.
The results in the first two games were almost identical: in Counter-Strike Source, the win ratio was 46/54, while in Global Offensive, it was 47/53. In both cases, the player holding the angle had a slight advantage.
The balance shifted in favor of the peeker, who won 58% of the duels compared to 42% for the player holding the angle. That means an 11-percentage-point swing in favor of the attacking player between CS:GO and CS2.
Gilborg’s experiment clearly illustrates the difference between the games, but it shouldn’t be treated as definitive scientific proof.
