Upsets continue at PGL Masters Bucharest as BETBOOM defeat Spirit

The result continues a trend of upsets at PGL Masters Bucharest, as FUT were the only high seeds to win their opening match so far.

BETBOOM have Aleksandr "⁠zorte⁠" Zagodyrenko to thank for their victory, as the Russian sniper topped the scoreboard on all three maps and won the series for his team with a 1v3 clutch featuring a noscope and a Glock kill.

Clip link On the other side of the server, Danil "⁠donk⁠" Kryshkovets was a non-factor for most of the match, finishing the series with a 0.84 average rating and only one map above 1.00.

Worrying signs began early for Spirit as they struggled to get their Anubis offense going, but a recovery to 5-7 proved enough for the Boris "⁠magixx⁠" Vorobiev -led squad to secure their map pick.

BETBOOM then completely took over in a one-sided Ancient victory before the match was decided on Mirage. zorte continued his impact and had several individual pop-offs throughout the series, with Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov eventually securing two match points with a defuse in a Molotov.

From there, Spirit never lost control of the series, going on to take an 8-4 lead on the CT side and giving up just a single round in the second half on the way to a dominant 13-5 before going to their pick.

Anubis started the same way as Mirage had, with TYLOO winning the first pistol round on the attack, and once again failing to convert the second round against the forcebuy.

Spirit found even less resistance on Anubis than they had on Mirage, giving up just three rounds at the half before cleanly mopping up the map on the attack, 13-3, to put an end to the series.

Despite that, Spirit brought the game back to overtime, where zorte put the final nail in the Spirit coffin with a 1v3 to send the Russian squad to the 0-1 pool.
